The Toast of the Coast Wine Competition
Double Gold Medal Winner, Best of Paso Robles AVA, Best Malbec and The Toast of the Coast (Best of Show Overall)


DEL MAR, CA (February 26, 2016) -- Twenty-four judges sipped 694 entries from the United States and Mexico on February 20 and 21 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for The Toast of the Coast Wine Competition. Many of the top performing wines will be served at the 5th Annual Toast of the Coast Wine Festival on Saturday, June 11, 2016, in the Paul Ecke, Jr. Garden Show during the San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Vons.

THE RESULTS ARE IN: Bon Niche Cellars, L’Entrée Malbec was rated 97 points and received a Double Gold Medal, Best of Paso Robles AVA, Best Malbec and the highest honor, The Toast of the Coast 2016. The competition awarded gold and silver medals along with the Double Gold Award, which is reserved for the finest wines deemed worthy by a four-judge panel consisting of one wine writer, one winemaker, one professional sommelier and one wine marketer. In addition, Best Varietal and Best of Appellation Awards were given to the top performing wine in each varietal or blended category as merited. “Best of” Awards refer to where the grapes used in making the wine were grown, not to the physical location of the winery itself. Below is a list of the Double Gold Award Winners and their special awards, if given. Uncork the fun to celebrate winemaking, and one of the fastest growing industries in San Diego County by attending The Toast of the Coast Wine Festival on Saturday, June 11.

VIP Winemakers' Tasting: $94 (includes Fair admission); $84 (without Fair admission) Start your winetasting journey with a sparkling wine reception 30 minutes prior to general admission festivalgoers. During the 90-minute VIP experience you’ll be treated to award-winning wines and food with the winemakers and chefs on hand to discuss the pairings.
