Del Mar Fairgrounds: Press Releases

The 2016 Scream Zone triples the fright with half the price on opening night at the Del Mar “Scaregrounds”

Released: September 08, 2016

News photo DEL MAR, CA ( September 8, 2016) --- The Scream Zone, San Diego County’s largest Halloween haunt, invites everyone to come and experience the supernatural and sinister scarefest for half price on opening night, Friday, September 30 at the Del Mar “Scaregrounds.” Enthusiasts of the macabre can experience the Triple Haunt package for only $16.50.

The Scream Zone returns for its 18th year, located deep in the west corner of the dark and secluded Del Mar “Scaregrounds.” For 24 select days of terror, the event promises to offer spine-chilling and frightful spooktacular experiences for thousands of curious onlookers deep inside the bone-rattling and hair-raising featured attractions. Last year, more than 35,000 brave haunt enthusiasts came through the doors of darkness and almost all of them came out -- an even 1,000 people found the experience too dreadful and didn’t make it to the shadowy end.

THE HOUSE OF HORROR features room after room of frightening and surprising visual and visceral experiences. Imagine being trapped and moved by a bevy of clowns or shaken, rattled and upended so that you don’t know where or who you are within utter darkness! KARNEVIL is everything carnival and freak show, including the weird and surreal trailer park of clowns and a death spiral that leaves visitors disoriented and terrified. THE HAUNTED HAYRIDE piles visitors into a wagon with an unknown destination. Ride through the darkness terrified and filled with hallucinations, zombies and other creatures of the night.

Parents are welcome to enter The Scream Zone compound and wait for children. (The Scream Zone is not recommended for children under 10 years old.) The parent lounge is free and there are lots of things for adults to enjoy -- including food concessionaires, vendors and adult beverages.
