Del Mar Fairgrounds: Press Releases

2016 Scream Zone promises Fangtastic and Frightful Fun

Released: October 01, 2016

News photo DEL MAR, Ca. (September 30, 2016) This is not for the faint of heart. Make sure your pacemaker has fresh batteries and you have attended a deep relaxation class before you come to the Del Mar Scaregrounds this year for The Scream Zone, open on select days through October 31, the largest event of its kind in San Diego County.

There are four ways to be shocked to the core this year at the Scream Zone, each one offering its own blood curdling moans and groans of fun and shocking experiences created especially for the San Diegans who love to be scared out of their minds. House of Horror has expanded its “Conjuring” experience to offer more menacing features of last year’s #1 horror film. There is an unspeakable Exorcist Room and a Clown Lounge, the last place you’d ever want to have a drink. The Reaper Abbey defies reality with real and unreal characters coming to life and at you, all at once. KarnEvil holds the largest-ever spinning tunnel and “dot room,” cursing its participants with a disorienting and visually challenging experience. The Haunted Hayride meanders through various grisly possibilities and introduces the riders to a Wicked Alice in Horrendous-Land after going down the Rabbit Hole; a Clown Town which tries really hard to be normal; a Zombie Slum Row exposing “what could be”; a Dust til Dawn Zombie Truck Stop down at the deadend; and there’s more!

New this year, the Zombie Boot Camp challenges participants in a basic training course for Zombie survivalists. Survival groups will face multiple obstacles and challenges as they attempt to survive a zombie outbreak and preserve the future of civilization while being chased by the living dead. Zombie Boot Camp is so spine-chilling that you must be at least 18 years and willing, sign a liability waiver and present a valid ID before entering. Participants will be running, crawling and getting dirty so athletic attire and footwear are encouraged.
