33rd Breeders’ Cup World Championship simulcast live at Surfside Race Place

DEL MAR, Ca. (October 24, 2016).- Surfside Race Place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds will simulcast the 33rd Breeders’ Cup World Championship on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 live from Santa Anita Park. Surfside is one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious off-track betting facilities. This $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic is the defining event of the international thoroughbred racing season and is expected to draw a large crowd. Next year, the Breeders’ Cup Classic race will be held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

The best horses and jockeys in the world will compete in 13 championship races for their place in history over two days. This event is the culmination of the horse racing season worldwide and the Breeders’ Cup Classic race - run at 1 1/4 miles - draws the top international contenders year after year.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic is open to three-years-old horses and older, and is limited to 14 starters. Seven of this year’s starters will gain automatic entries into the race by qualifying through Breeders’ Cup Challenge series. Contenders include the best: California Chrome, Nyquist and more. Advanced wagering begins Friday, Nov. 4 for Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup races. Surfside also will show races from Golden Gate, Gulfstream Park, Woodbine, Churchill Downs, Aqueduct, Australia, Hawthorne, and Los Alamitos on more than 1,000 video monitors.
Friday, Nov. 4, doors will open at 9 a.m. in anticipation of a large crowd for the first post from Santa Anita at 11:25 a.m. All fans will receive a Breeders’ Cup commemorative tumbler with paid admission, while supplies last.

Saturday, Nov. 5, doors will open at 9 a.m. and the first post from Santa Anita is at 10:15 a.m. The Breeders’ Cup Classic, Saturday’s featured race, is at 5:35 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the best seats and enjoy breakfast at the Carving Stand.

General admission is $5. Reservations are needed for both the Theater and Saddle Club. Theater seating is $5 and will provide a Las Vegas-style race book. Saddle Club admission is $15 and includes a program.

Del Mar’s Diamond Club members receive 50% off general admission and free parking. Membership to the Diamond Club is free; racing fans can sign up on their first visit and start saving on future visits. The Diamond Club is a joint venture with the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, so those who joined during the live meet can use their savings now.
