Oh my!

DEL MAR, Ca. ( November 1, 2016).- Goblins and ghosts and numerous zombies finally have “left the building,” at The 18th Scream Zone on the Del Mar Scaregrounds, bringing quiet once again to the horse stables and spooky buildings of the infamous haunt, found in the deepest and darkest corner of the Fairgrounds.

More than 35,000 people came through the haunt this year to be scared out of their minds. “Victims of the House” tally reached 786 people who were too frightened to finish the haunt, leaving early through one of the escape exits. For the first time ever, two people needed to be rescued from the Haunted Hayride and escorted back to safety after succumbing to a panic attack.

About 150 scary clowns, zombies, KillBillies, demented dolls and other frightening creatures, plus carpenters, electricians, managers, and makeup artists, kept the spooktacular event simultaneously alive and dead during the 24-day event. Zombie Boot Camp was held for the first time, recreating a likely scenario of a Zombie Apocalypse where people were chased and scared through obstacles by zombies while they climbed, crawled and ran to the end.

The infamous House of Horror, KarnEvil and Haunted Hayride haunts drew brave participants from throughout San Diego County, some came for their first haunt experience and others returned as an annual fall tradition. Who knows what is in store for next year? Stay tuned!
