DEL MAR, CA For more than 25 years, the San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Vons, has offered free educational programs that bring local children to the Fair to participate in educational and fun activities for a day. Three field trip programs include School Tours, The Field Trip Program, and Plant * Grow * Eat. Teachers and educational leaders can sign up online at sdfair.com/learn
This free assembly program is perfect for schools not in session during the Fair. During April and May, Fair staff visits schools to educate students about agricultural, historic and creative concepts using animals, games, puzzles and stories. School Tours are open to students K-3. Reservations are first-come-first-served. Application deadline is March 3.
PLANT * GROW * EAT
This free program is available to K-6 schools in session during the Fair and starts in May, with Fair staff delivering materials to the classroom for students to grow their own plants. In June, students take a field trip to the Fair and bring their plant, learn about agriculture and receive ribbons for their effort. Application Deadline is March 31.
FIELD TRIP PROGRAM AND SUMMER STEAM MAKER FESTIVAL
K-12 schools, clubs, and youth organizations are invited to take a field trip to the Fair on Wednesday, June 14. The Fair has teamed up with Steam Maker Workshop to provide a hands-on festival, filled with free STEAM-based activities and challenges. Groups will be able to explore the rest of the San Diego County Fair on their visit and explore exhibits including Creative Youth, California Grown, The Farm and the Where the West is Fun Theme Exhibit. Ride ‘em cowboys! “Where the West is Fun” is the theme for the 2017 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Vons, remembering the rough and tumble Wild, Wild West and celebrating how the West is fun today. The 2017 Fair will feature a Wild West saloon, numerous Western-themed educational and historic exhibits and country music for everyone to enjoy. There is a new Sheriff in town and it is you! Pull on your boots, grab your cowboy hat, and ride on in to Del Mar for some fun this summer. The Fair opens at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 2 and runs through Tuesday, July 4; it is closed the first four Mondays and the first three Tuesdays.
