Prize Lists Available Online for 72nd Del Mar National Horse Show

DEL MAR, Ca. ( February 17, 2017) Horse and rider teams with a competitive spirit are encouraged to register for the 72nd Del Mar National Horse Show, which begins April 18 and runs through May 7. New this year the prize list entry materials are available
online only; access them at delmarnational.com. Each week’s competitions have their own prize list and entry forms: Western Week from April 18-22, Dressage Week from April 27-30, and Hunter/Jumper Week from May 2-7.

One of the nation’s most impressive and longest-running horse shows, the Del Mar National shares some very special features including three spectacular Saturday evening events and historic perpetual trophies, handed out for decades to winners in all disciplines. Nearly 1,500 horses from various countries will compete in the three-week show for more than $300,000 in cash and prizes.

Western Week includes four AQHA/PCQHA/NSBA/ApHC Shows; NRHA Classes – $2,500 Added, PCHA Open Horse Show, Traditional Perpetual Trophies, and Circuit & All Around Awards. This exciting week is packed full of elite reining, pleasure, and trail horsemen competitions as it has for more than 50 years.

For an exuberant night off from competition, exhibitors and spectators alike can enjoy, “The Night of the Horse” on Saturday, April 22, where extraordinary horsemanship and world-class performers are showcased in this action-packed event, demonstrating unique horse and rider teamwork.

Dressage Week brings CDI-W, International Dressage Competition, and classes for amateurs and juniors. Top horse & rider combinations vie for prize money, USEF National Qualifying recognition and FEI World ranking. The Evening of Musical Freestyles on Saturday, April 29, is Dressage Week’s feature event, set to music. It is a World Cup qualifying event, showcasing a presentation of strength & elegance between the rider and horse.

Hunter/Jumper Week offers a breadth of classes for both disciplines, including the prestigious North American Junior Young Rider Championship Selection Trial, a leading competition under FEI rules, allowing top young riders to test their skills against other top juniors. The $25,000 Surfside Grand Prix on Friday, May 5, will host as many as 65 horse and rider duos who will compete for the chance to ride in the $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar on Saturday, May 6. Also that night is the fast and furious $5,000 Ride & Drive Classic.

The Del Mar National Horse Show is a showcase of equestrian eventing that includes the distinct disciplines of Western, Dressage and Hunter/Jumper in world-class competitions for three weeks from April 18 through May 7.
