DEL MAR, Ca. ( April 24, 2017).- The final competitions of the 72nd Del Mar National Horse Show will feature the Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Equestrian Division’s Hunter/Jumper week from May 2-7, and is considered a staple in many spectators’ show schedules. Traditionally, this week features two Grand Prix jumping competitions, and the $5,000 Ride & Drive Classic, presented by Competitive Equestrian Magazine.

Also, a special retirement ceremony will be held for the spectacular 21-year-old Irish stallion, Flexible, before $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar. This 21-year old show jumping superstar, owned by Harry and Mollie Chapman, and ridden by Rich Fellers, is no stranger to Del Mar as a former winner of the Grand Prix of Del Mar and the winner of all four rounds of the 2012 Olympic Trials on his way to the London Olympic Games.
Fellers and Flexible will be available for autographs and photos on Friday and Saturday evening in the courtyard of the Del Mar arena.

Saturday evening begins at 6:45 p.m. with the $5,000 Ride & Drive event, presented by Competitive Equestrian Magazine. In this very fun event, riders and their horses must speed and maneuver through a short course of jumps, then climb into a car and drive a course around the arena. The fastest rider wins the prize money. This event adds to the excitement of the Grand Prix. Tickets can be purchased at delmarnational.com.

Seasoned competitors from around the world merge to compete head to head in the $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar, presented by Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Equestrian Division. As one of the most prestigious Grands Prix on the West Coast, this event brings Olympic veterans, World Cup winners and International show jumping stars together at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for an exciting weekend of competition and fun. Show jumpers such as Richard Spooner, Mandy Porter, Rich Fellers, Olympic Gold Medalist Will Simpson, and many others will be competing for the prize money.

Friday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m., features the Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Equestrian Division’s $25,000 Surfside Grand Prix, presented by iJump Sports. This qualifying event for Saturday’s Grand Prix, brings more than 50 of the best competitors and their horses into the arena who do not want to miss out on the opportunity to compete in the Grand Prix of Del Mar for the prize money and title of the show. This qualifying event is free to the public in the beautiful indoor Del Mar Arena.

The horse show is free to spectators daily (including Sundays and Friday evening for the Surfside GP). Each day has competitions featuring Junior, Amateur and Professional riders of all ages vying for ribbons, trophies and prize money. Saturday evenings is the only paid admission event of this final week of the horse show. Food and beverage concessions as well as equestrian specialty shops are open to the public during the entire horse show.
