DEL MAR, Calif. (April 30, 2018) – The Del Mar National Horse Show culminates with the exciting Hunter/Jumper Week May 1-6 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Hunter/Jumper Week offers a breadth of classes for both disciplines, including the prestigious North American Junior Young Rider Championship Selection Trial, a leading competition under International Federation for Equestrian Sports rules, allowing top young riders to test their skills against other top juniors.

The $25,000 Surfside Grand Prix presented by The Competitive Equestrian at 1:45 p.m. May 4 will host as many as 75 horse and rider duos who will compete to qualify for one of the 30 coveted spots in the prestigious $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar presented by Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Equestrian Division at 6:45 p.m. May 5. Filled with exciting speed and agility, the Grand Prix will entertain a standing-room-only crowd of enthusiastic fans cheering on their favorite athletes. The finest horses and riders in the world always rise to the occasion and thrill spectators with the best the sport has to offer in this event.

New this year is the Extreme Trail Celebrity Challenge presented by Land Rover San Diego at 6:45 p.m. May 5. This fun competition will feature unlikely riders on Western horses competing on trails with obstacles against the clock.

The 73rd annual Del Mar National Horse Show kicked off its three-week run on April 17. The iconic horse show brings together many of the most accomplished, athletic and revered horse and rider teams to compete for coveted trophies. Nearly 1,500 horses from various countries have been competing in the three-week show for more than $300,000 in cash and prizes.

Much of the Del Mar National Horse Show is free for spectators except for the $100,000 Grand Prix, which requires paid admission. Tickets are available at delmarnational.com. Spectators don’t need to be well-versed in the equestrian world to thoroughly enjoy the horse show. What’s more, visitors will enjoy an interactive exhibit called USEF Meet the Breeds Expo presented by MD Barnmaster from 5-9:30 p.m. May 5 before and during the $100,000 Grand Prix, where kids and families will find hands-on opportunities to experience the exciting world of horses. Whether you grew up in the equestrian arena or have simply dreamed about owning or riding a horse, the Meet the Breeds Expo offers a fun chance to sit in different types of saddles, get an up-close and personal view of different breeds of horses and even take selfies with your favorite four-legged show-stoppers.
