DEL MAR, Calif. (May 16, 2019) – The Del Mar Fairgrounds will host a kick-off ceremony at 11 a.m. May 20 to mark the start of construction to renovate the existing Surfside Race Place off-track wagering facility into the premier concert and entertainment venue in north San Diego County. Members of the Board of Directors for the 22nd District Agricultural Association (which owns and operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds) will speak at the event.

Work is now underway to transform the current off-track betting facility into a multi-purpose concert and entertainment center that will host a wide variety of concerts and special events throughout the year. With capacity upwards of 1,900, the $15 million project will feature 100+ concerts each year, state-of-the-art esports competitions, catering facilities, sporting events, satellite wagering, weddings, educational opportunities, family events and more. On-site eateries featuring craft beers will also be a highlight.

The anticipated project completion date is the spring of 2020. Naming rights are currently available.

“This new premier facility is going to complement everything we currently do at the Fairgrounds – from the San Diego County Fair and horse racing to KAABOO and all of our special events,” said Tim Fennell, CEO of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. “This new venue will create jobs and make a huge economic impact on the local community. We’re thrilled to be creating a premier entertainment venue that will be a highlight of north county.”
