Here Comes The Fun!
The 22nd DAA Announces Theme for the 2014 San Diego County Fair:
“THE FAB FAIR”
Will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the British Invasion.
Open Saturday, June 7-Sunday, July 6
The 2014 San Diego County Fair theme was announced today at the 22nd District Agricultural Association’s Board of Directors meeting. “The Fab Fair” will kick off the summer of 2014 with a tribute to the British Invasion phenomenon that began almost 50 years ago in 1964. The British Invasion refers to musical acts and other aspects of British culture that became popular during this period of time. The San Diego County Fair’s theme exhibit has already secured two exhibitions NEVER BEFORE seen in California:
“The Beatles! - Backstage and Behind the Scenes,” is a fine art photography exhibition from the CBS photo archive and LIFE photographer Bill Eppridge. It includes 84 never-before published images of the Beatles first appearances in America in 1964.
“Give Peace a Chance,” commemorates John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s historic “bed-in” for peace. The exhibition features photography by Gerry Deiter, the only photographer who was present in their hotel room for all eight days of the bed-in.
“The Beatles bring back fond memories and remind us of some of the greatest moments in music history,” stated Timothy J. Fennell, General Manager and CEO of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. “The 2014 San Diego County Fair will have something for everyone. In addition to great entertainment and exhibits, the Fair will celebrate as only a county fair can, with contests, food, carnival rides, shopping, and exhibit entries including: photography, livestock, landscapes, flowers, art, collections, woodworking and lots, lots more. Not to mention a few “fab” surprises along the way,” added Fennell.
The 2014 San Diego County Fair will open on Saturday June 7 through Sunday, July 6. The Fair will be closed on Mondays and the first two Tuesdays (June 10 & 17). The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the fourth largest Fair in North America, drawing more than 1.4 million visitors annually. The 22nd District Agricultural Association is a State of California agency that owns and operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surfside Race Place, Horsepark Equestrian Center and the Del Mar Golf Center. The 22nd DAA produces four events each year: The San Diego County Fair, the Del Mar National Horse Show, Professional Bull Riding (PBR) and The Scream Zone. The Fairgrounds hosts more than 350 events annually, the largest of which is the live horse racing meet each summer, which is operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for the 22nd DAA and the State of California.
