The Del Mar Fairground's flagship event, the San Diego County Fair, is the largest county Fair in the country, the largest Fair in California and the fifth largest fair in North America. Aside from minor interruptions, the Fair has been held annually since 1880. It is the largest and oldest annual event in San Diego. The 22nd District Agricultural Association, which operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds on behalf of the State of California.
The San Diego County Fair is just one of the many events at the Del Mar Fairgrounds' multi-use, multi-million-dollar facility. Other major events at the Del Mar Fairgrounds include the world-famous Del Mar Thoroughbred Club race meet; the Del Mar National Horse Show; The Scream Zone and hundreds of consumer shows throughout the year.

Attendance at the 2015 Fair was the second-highest in Fair history with 1,503,538 visitors — making this the 5th largest fair in North America, and the largest County Fair in the U.S.
The San Diego County Fair is held on the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego. The Fairgrounds, is located adjacent to San Diego's three most affluent communities —Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe and Solana Beach. The grounds are located west of Interstate 5 at the Via de la Valle exit, on the Pacific Ocean.

San Diego County Fair Facts
||The 2016 San Diego County Fair will open for a sneak peak on Friday afternoon June 3rd and close July 4th. The Fair will be closed on Mondays (except July 4th) and the first two Tuesdays. This gives the Fair a run of 25 ½ days.
||The Fair opens daily at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Fair closes at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Fun Zone stays opens approximately to midnight each night.
||Fair admission is $16.00 for adults, $9.00 for ages 62 and older, and children 6 to 12. Children 5 and younger are admitted free.
||The Del Mar Fairgrounds is located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar, California 92014 (20 miles north of downtown San Diego). From Interstate 5, exit west on Via de la Valle. Turn south on Jimmy Durante Blvd. The Fairgrounds is on the West side of the road.
||Kids' Day. Admission is free for kids 12 and younger. Special kids' activities are planned throughout the day.
|Each Wednesday and Thursday
||Pepsi Pay-One-Price Ride Day. Fairgoers pay one low price for the thrills of riding the 70-plus Fun Zone and Family Funville rides.
||Dia de la Familia. These days have premier Grandstand Stage entertainment, contests and events for the Hispanic community.
