Del Mar Fairgrounds: About San Diego

Del Mar Fairgrounds Calendar of Events

San Diego is well-known for its near-idyllic weather, which averages about 70-75 degrees most of the year (about 10 degrees warmer in the summer and about 10 degrees cooler in the winter).

Such consistently fine weather means that outdoor activities rule. Among those outdoor activities are golf, tennis, bicycling, ocean swimming, hiking, beach volleyball, sailing, surfing, deep-sea fishing, and of course, attending the continent's fifth largest fair, the San Diego County Fair, from late June through early July.

San Diego County has two major-league teams, NFL's Chargers and Major League Baseball's Padres, and hosts two PGA tour events each winter. One of the nation's leading horse race meets, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club season, takes place on the Del Mar Fairgrounds from late July to early September.

San Diego also has become well known for its fine cultural events. Home to the Old Globe Theater and La Jolla Playhouse each a winner of a Tony regional theater award the city is home to a fine symphony orchestra, an opera company, numerous art galleries and several outstanding regional theaters and performance venues. Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in the nation, has 15 museums and is home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
