NEWS: Half a ton of food collected during Del Mar Fairgrounds November food drives
Employees, operators, and guests contributed 1,037 pounds of food to people facing hunger throughout San Diego County

DEL MAR, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2023) — The 22nd District Agricultural Association, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, and other operators at the Del Mar Fairgrounds recently collected more than 1,000 pounds of food donations for people facing hunger throughout San Diego County.

District employees, WAVE Volleyball club, and Premier Food Services contributed a total of 377.4 pounds of food for the District's drive. The effort was conducted in partnership with Feeding San Diego.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club also set up a food drive during its Fall live race meet. That drive netted 660 pounds of food for those in need.

That means, in total, about 1,037 pounds of food — more than a half ton — were donated at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

"The Del Mar Fairgrounds is a vital community asset that consistently steps up to help San Diego County in times of need," said Carlene Moore, the District's CEO. "We are grateful to our team for contributing to this food drive, and we are pleased that our work can help make life easier for families during the holiday season."
